Online home retailer Wayfair is expanding its workforce around Ireland with 'virtual' jobs
The furnishing seller is adding 200 new positions to support its European business.
US E-COMMERCE FIRM Wayfair is expanding its presence in Ireland with 200 new jobs, the majority of which will make up a “virtual workforce”.
Headquartered in Boston, Wayfair is an online home furniture and goods retailer that opened its Galway office 10 years ago. There are currently 400 people working out of the Irish base, which serves the company’s European business.
The latest jobs announcement will add 200 people to the ranks but not all of them will be based out of the office in the city.
Wayfair declined to provide a breakdown of the on-site roles and remote roles citing company policy but Fora understands that the majority of the 200 new Irish jobs will be virtual.
Wayfair will hire remote workers within the Galway region initially and then in more counties as it expands and looks to fill more positions.
Vice president of sales and service Liz Graham said the virtual workforce “will enable us to tap into an even broader talent pool” around Ireland. The company said it had introduced a dedicated “virtual leadership team” to help with the plan.
The new jobs include roles in customer service, inbound sales, finance, supply operations, business analysis and recruitment and training.
Long term
The US company, which also operates a number of sister sites, has 9,700 employees spread across its multiple offices in the US and European locations in Germany and Ireland.
It reported net revenues of $5.7 billion for the year ended June 2018 with 12.8 million active customers.
Chief executive Niraj Shah said during the company’s last earnings report that it was focused on long-term investments in building out its logistics networks and international business as well as scaling its employee numbers further.
