Fancy an adventure? Outdoor clothing chain Regatta is opening stores across Ireland
The company plans to hire 100 new staff.
UK-BASED CLOTHING firm Regatta Great Outdoors will double its footprint in Ireland after announcing plans to open a string of stores.
The company said today that it plans to create 100 jobs with the opening of several new outlets “including key locations in Galway, Dublin and Waterford”.
At the moment, Regatta employs 65 people in 11 stores across Ireland. The company said it will open six new stores by September, and it expects to have a total of nine new outlets in total – bringing its combined footprint to 20 locations.
It is expected that the expansion will consist of more than one new store in Dublin, as well as a second outlet in Cork.
Regatta, which was set up in the UK in 1981, first came to Ireland in 2000 when the company’s current Irish director, Brian Fox, was appointed as a sales representative for the brand and sold to buyers from the garage of his own home.
The firm opened its first concession in Wexford in 2004 and finally opened its first standalone store in Limerick in 2011.
Demand
Fox said that Regatta’s expansion in Ireland “is to satisfy customer demand”.
“There is a strong market for what we offer in Ireland, which is both fashion and technical outdoor wear as well as advanced footwear and camping ranges,” he said.
“We are delighted to see our business growing following some turbulent years in Ireland.”
The latest accounts for the company show that its Irish arm made a profit of about €900,000 in the year to the end of January 2016, a major lift on the €150,000 reported the year before.
