MICHAEL O’LEARY HELD court at Ryanair’s headquarters in Swords this evening in his first public appearance since the budget airline announced it would cancel hundreds of flights over the next six weeks.

He outlined more details of the airline’s plans to cut some 50 flights a day from now until the end of October, saying that about 400,000 passengers will be affected.

The airline boss said a new annual leave system for pilots led to a situation where Ryanair had to cancel the flights.

Interestingly, O’Leary suggested that if a similar situation occurred at another aviation company, he would call for heads to roll.

“I don’t think my head should roll. I need to stay here and fix this,” he added, stressing that he takes personal responsibility for the “cock-up”.
