This global car tech developer is moving its headquarters from the UK to Ireland
Aptiv will add a hundred staff to its 250-person Irish operation as part of the move.
BRITISH AUTOMOTIVE SOFTWARE firm Aptiv will shift its global headquarters from the UK to Dublin.
Aptiv was established last year as a spin-out from Delphi Automotive and was previously headquartered in Kent.
The firm already employs 150 people at its offices in Dublin and plans to grow that number to 250.
The Irish division only represents a small portion of Aptiv’s business internationally, which has roughly 147,000 employees across 14 sites.
Aptiv develops technology for cars including sensors for collecting and sharing data and connecting vehicles together. The company is also developing the software that will help power driverless cars.
Aptiv chief executive Kevin Clark referred to Ireland’s talent pool and business environment as key reasons for the company’s move.
The announcement comes the same day that the company posted its quarterly earnings for the first three months of 2018.
It booked revenues of $3.6 billion, a growth of 15% from the same period last year, with net income of $307 million.
Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphrey said Aptiv’s decision was a “great vote of confidence” in Ireland.
Autonomous driving
Aptiv was previously a part of US automotive parts firm Delphi Automotive, but was spunout in recent years when Delphi was split up into different companies.
It works with car and technology companies to develop software for autonomous and assisted driving.
Most recently it launched its autonomous driving software platform with US ride-hailing giant Lyft, which will be tested with 30 cars in Las Vegas.
