The industry has been in terminal decline since 2007.

AFTER YEARS IN decline, it will come as little surprise to most that Irish newspaper sales dropped again in the first half of 2016.

Circulation of daily titles was down 5.7% in the first six months of the year, according to figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, while the Sunday print market shed 6.3% of its sales.

Ireland’s best-selling daily paper, the Irish Independent saw its circulation decrease 6.4% compared to the same period last year to an average of 102,537 copies. The Irish Times was down 5.5% to 72,011, and the Irish Examiner was down 6.7% to 30,964.

The Sunday Independent remained the biggest seller in the Sunday market, but circulation dropped to 199,210, down 6.7%. The Sunday World, another Independent News & Media title, dropped 8.9% to 162, 938.

The Sunday Times dropped 6.4% to 77,455 and The Sunday Business Post’s circulation was down 3.5% to 31,364.

However there was one exception – the Irish Sun – which saw its circulation lift 4.6% to 60,371 copies. Media analysts attributed the rise to a promotional campaign that saw the paper halve its cover price in June.

So with all that in mind, we’re asking readers: How often do you buy a newspaper?
