IT WAS ANNOUNCED last week that Limerick billionaire JP McManus was donating €100,000 to each of the 32 GAA county boards in the country.

The gesture received a mixed response.

Aware of the fact that the businessman has made several charitable donations in his life, one camp gave him a collective pat on the back for supporting cash-strapped clubs.

Others were less enthused, noting that McManus has been tax-resident in Switzerland since the 1990s.

Although such an arrangement is legal, some question the ethics around Ireland’s wealthiest individuals using their financial clout to lower their tax bill through overseas arrangements.

With that in mind, we’re asking Fora readers this week: Would you legally pay your taxes overseas if you could?
