Poll: Do you think 'Ireland's Hidden Heartlands' is a good name?

The midlands tourism brand conjures up images of ‘rubberneckers’ for some holidaymakers.

EARLIER THIS YEAR, the midlands and Shannon region finally got its own tourism brand.

Unveiled in April, Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands – which covers Leitrim, east Clare, Longford, Roscommon, east Galway and parts of Westmeath, Cavan, north Tipperary and Offaly – joined the brand portfolio that includes Ireland’s Ancient East and the Wild Atlantic Way.

As revealed by Fora, the road to finding a name for the marketing initiative showed what domestic and international tourists really think of Ireland’s least visited region.

Asked for their opinion on a shortlist of mooted monikers, some holidaymakers thought the ‘heartlands’ name conjured up images of “natural, rustic areas with fresh air and unspoilt countryside”.

Others were less impressed – one Irish woman thought it “sounds alright to foreign ears but to me it implies nothing but bogs and rubberneckers!”

With that in mind, we’re asking Fora readers this week: Do you think ‘Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands’ is a good name?
